I wandered an antique store for Mother’s day and this sculpture kept calling my name. I have other Windstone pieces, and of course I like the cats the best. I circled back and picked it up. It was designed to be a candle holder, but I’m much too distractible to burn candles, so I thought it appropriate that the seven cats would sit around a ball of yarn.
I will probably change out the center focus as the whim moves me. A nice glass or stone orb would go well there too.
In October 2014 I made my first poultry wire ghost.
I had seen photos of wire ghosts and loved how the mesh looked etherial, especially at first glance in the dark.
One ghost led to two, as I wanted to make one larger.
The idea to put the ghost’s hands over her face came from watching Dr Who and the weeping angels. It also solved the awkwardness of sculpting hands.
I had many requests for these ghosts, so I wrote instructions with tips and tricks, which has become my best selling item on Etsy.
In March of 2011 I was experimenting with copper clay, which is fine particles of copper suspended in a fireable media that shapes like clay. When heated in a kiln, the organics burn away and the copper remains. I made this squirrel for my Dad, and after firing it measures about a half inch tall.
What I liked about this sculpture is the way I treated the tail. From the side it looks like a full fluffy tail, but the back shows that it is spoon shaped, which reduces the bulk and I feel was a nice design choice.
