We planted a Turks cap shrub, which is another Texas native, in our front flower bed this Spring. So far it is thriving and just started producing flowers.
Depending on how much the shrub loves the corner we’ve given it, it could fill the space. We’ll see. I’ve read that they usually are 2-3 feet wide and tall, but can reach 10 feet.
I love purple thistles. The adoration probably started when I visited Scotland where it is the national flower. Yes, they are prickly, yes, they take over wild areas, but the blooms are stunning and grow tall and strong.
The crossvine (Bignonia capreolata) on our front fence is happy to greet the Spring. This Texas native does well in sun or shade, is evergreen during mild winters, and blooms repeatedly throughout Spring, Summer, and Fall.
This sounds like a plug for the crossvine, but it is not a paid promotion. This is honestly one of my favorite plants in our yard. It is a superstar.
