Recovering my hope chest

My cat loves to sharpen her claws on the cushioned top of my hope chest. Luckily, it is easy to recover! (Although I admit it stayed in the frayed state for a couple years.)

Hope chest with cat damage

I removed the screws holding the cushion to the lid, then used a staple gun to attach the new fabric over the old. When screwing the lid back on, it helps to clamp it in place until you get a few screws set. The whole project took about 30 minutes. The fabric is indoor/outdoor fabric that I hope will hold up to the cat’s attentions, if not, I will recover it again later!

And of course, the first thing that happens is that my cat throws up on it. The easy clean fabric was a good choice. Oi.

Fancy a dust bath?

I moved the trail camera, and apparently zeroed in on the neighborhood cat dust bath. I had 200 pictures of cats laying in the dirt. I will spare you the whole collection, and just share the cutest.

Big Orange Tom, father of most of the neighborhood’s kittens, has a vulnerable moment
Black kitty also takes a dust bath. We have the most pictures of her on several days.
Not cats, but the four baby raccoons have grown up!

I’z brought present

Sophie and the spiny lizard

Sophie the indoor/outdoor cat, who is leaning more toward indoor everyday, brought me a present. I remembered to take a picture before I investigated, which is the only reason I am posting about it. The lizard was playing dead for the cat, and when I reached for it, it took off like a shot and disappeared. I think this lizard has done this before. With any luck, the lizard will go off and make more cat and human foiling baby lizards.

Meadow cat

Sophie in the wild flowers

This is Sophie’s meadow. She likes to hang out there and seems to be the queen of this space since I rarely see other female cats there. Or maybe she is more confident out in the open because she has the best camouflage in the neighborhood. I just had to take her picture as she stood in the cut daisies (yellow), hedge parsley (white), and Indian blankets (red and orange).

Round cat in a round pot

Cat in a pot

Because it has been such a long month, here is a cute cat sitting in a pot to end your April with a smile. No, I didn’t try to plant anything in this pot. I put it back out for the cat when she rejected the woven basket and then the woven basket developed mold. Ok, kitty, you can have the plant pot.
