It is very amusing to watch chickens dust bathing! They fluff and roll and shake their tail feathers. Mine co-bathe, which makes it even funnier as they try to squeeze under each other to get to the dust.

I now have a carrot that has gone to seed. It somehow escaped the harvest (which was rather a sad harvest, as I planted carrots just to see what happened, but didn’t prep our hard clay soil for carrots, so the roots were small and stunted). As it grew up tall and lush with the spring rain, I decided to just let it do its thing. The flowers are impressive bundles of white! I have since been reading more about carrot seed collection (this is a good article), and it will be interesting to see what, if anything, will grow from the seeds. This is a longer experiment; I need to wait until the end of summer when the flower heads turn brown, then collect the flower heads and let them dry completely before collecting the seeds.
I don’t usually do Throwback Thursday, but when I was cleaning out cabinets, I found our old ice cream ball, complete with a crocheted cover I made to protect our fingers from the hard plastic. It helped a little, but not enough to make using the ball a regular activity. I had forgotten I made it. Oh the laughs to be found in the back of the cabinet!

The ice cream ball really seemed like a good idea too. Bummer.

The standing cypress flowers are going bonkers in our meadow this year. We have at least a dozen three foot tall stalks bursting with bright red flowers. The bees and hummingbirds like them too!
It has been awhile since I’ve posted trail cam photos. Mostly they have been blurry pictures of raccoons, opossums, armadillos, cats, and the occasional bird. After some adjustment of the camera position, I am now getting less blurry snaps. Mostly.
