This is another gem from the recent trail cam collection; a deer peeking into the camera with what I interpret as curiosity. Mostly I get pictures of legs and tails, so this was startling.

I took in my SD card from the trail cam and uploaded it on the computer. There were 50 pictures, mostly of deer parts, but with two adjacent pictures that made a nearly whole deer. It made me laugh.

I added a rider to my meadow deer for Halloween. The deer was purchased as a holiday decoration a couple years ago, and I liked having it in the meadow so much I decided to make it a year-round ornament. I have a few more projects on my plate this year than last, so an ornate Halloween sculpture wasn’t going to happen. But a simple three foot plastic skeleton twist tied to the back of the deer, with a length of scrap white ribbon for a bridle, well that was very doable.

Last year’s purchase of a pre-made pre-lit deer decoration has gone through a series of changes at my house. I liked him standing in my meadow so much, I took off his festive holiday bow so he could stay there all through spring and summer. He moved to the back woods when it was time for the ghost to come out, but you could still see him through the branches which was neat. In early December, I stripped out all the old LED light strings and instead set up a LED wave light in front of him set to a multi-hued pattern. The light does a much better job showing of his iridescent trappings, and looks stunning in the full dark.

My trail cam has been hanging out in the back of the lot, snapping pictures of (in order of volume) cats, raccoons, opossums, birds, and deer.

I like seeing the deer. I haven’t been seeing any on my walks when I’m in the neighborhood, but I’m glad to see some deer are near.
