Our volunteer morning glories are starting to bloom in the back yard. I used to plant morning glories and moon flowers at my old houses; it is rather neat that these are propagating in their own. Especially since the seeds I planted here didn’t take!
This triple daylily and flamboyant insect reminds me of Fourth of July fireworks, but are calm and quiet. I’m a big fan of calm and quiet. But fiercely protective of my independence! Party on dudes, but quietly after bedtime if you please.

After watching it for awhile, it did manage to pull the spider up into the garage. Um, no thank you. I usually leave spiders alone, but one harboring wasp eggs? Not in my garage. It was taken care of.
Every time a new flower blooms in our meadow I think I have a new favorite flower! This week’s favorite is the American basket flower. I love that it looks like a purple thistle without the prickly bits!

Now one bonus flower (Standing cypress aka Scarlet gilia) is one thing, but two is suspicious. I think that I planted a hummingbird and song bird flower mix as well as a shade flower mix, and Lady Bird Johnson’s mix. All at different times in the last year and a half, all (I thought), duds. Apparently we are getting the right amount of rain for the meadow. So there we go, mystery solved. Kind of exciting to see what my next favorite flower is going to be.
