Words on a sunrise

My husband says he won’t read anything printed on a sunrise. He claims they are either religious or sappy. He does read my blog, so he’ll probably skip reading the words on the picture for this post. It is worth considering the audience loss when putting together memes, so I will be careful with my photo choices moving forward.

Words on a sunrise

New waiting project

I’ve started a crochet project using the first yarn I spun on my spinning wheel. The consistency varies wildly, so I took my wraps per inch (wpi) measurements from one of the thicker sections.

Measuring wraps per inch on hand-spun yarn

I consulted a wraps per inch chart to select a crochet hook size based on my measurement of 9 wpi. By selecting a hook for the thicker parts of the yarn, the thinner areas will be more lacey, but that is OK because my pattern is for a lace shawl. If I sized the hook for the thinner sections of yarn, the shawl would become stiff for the thicker sections.

I’ve put the whole project in a bag in the car so it is ready for the waiting times.

Portrait mode

Today you get a snap of Seashell in portrait mode. Yes, I followed the chickens around the run. Yes, I aimed my phone along their back and waited for them to look at me in askance. My chickens are very calm and put up with my shenanigans. Mostly.

Seashell the hatchery quality Faverolle hen

Seashell is definitely not show worthy, nor should she ever be part of a breeding program, but she is my healthiest and best groomed hen. I like her color too, even though it is non-standard.

Painting inspiration

I think this, with some composition tweaks, could make a nice painting/drawing/still life. Such a happy cat in her basket, and it is her basket. One of the tweaks in arrangement would be to have her laying on combed fiber. Naughty kitty. But content.

Maybe some lighting and POV adjustments. The background would definitely need different elements. Hm. Sticking this one in my “potential” list.

Mohair fiber page

I finished my spun mohair fiber page. This mohair is from Rutabaga the Angora goat and is from her first shearing.

I did a knitting swatch in stockinette stitch with a garter stitch border, crochet round, a minute weaver, and a nålbound swatch.
