Happy Halloween!

Eye in tree bark.
The trees are watching, trick-o-treet!

I had some fun with Photoshop for this one. The tree already had a nice knot, it just needed help refining the eye. This is a strange Halloween, and we will be staying in. My youngest thinks a game night would be awesome, maybe with a scavenger hunt for candy (although she doesn’t eat any, it is still fun to find). We’ll probably put out some candy for those without immune issues, and a sign on the door asking not to knock or ring, because the youngest has immune issues. May you all have an enjoyable evening, whether you like to be scared, or do the scaring, whether the ghosts and ghouls are scarier than spewed droplets or not.

Ghostly crown

She looks rather pleased to be crowned

It is probably strange that when I found a fallen branch with lovely fall colors in the meadow my first thought was to make a crown for my masked ghost. Ah well, the ghost looks pleased with her adornment, and although the others seem to gaze on with envy, there can only be one queen.

Growing

Little Miss is bigger than Izzy!

Missy the puppy has reached 11.6 pounds. This makes her officially heavier than Izzy the cat. Not longer, just with more weight. They take up my whole lap. The cat still rules the house, though, which is as it should be.

Snap peas

Snap pea!

What? I grew a vegetable? Hurray! Now, I planted several mounds, and only one took and produced, but one is better than none! Like my “ever-bearing” strawberries that produced one edible strawberry all summer. Bleh. I’m glad I have other talents. I’ll keep learning about gardening, and keep trying, though. Maybe I’ll get enough peas that we can each have one, rather than cut a single snap pea into portions. It is good to have goals.

Sewing capsule

Vintage (90 years old) sewing capsule

This is the coolest thing! I read about sewing capsules in an edition of “Piecework” magazine; they have a thimble for a lid, and two spools of thread and a needle holder tucked into the body. I had to have one. I usually carry a knife, so needle and thread is all my sewing kit really needs, and I can never find my thimble. I searched ebay and found one that was a nice green color. Businesses used to hand these out as promotional items, so there are many with old business information. Mine is from a funeral home in Wabash, IN, and the phone number is two digits. Two. From some internet research, it was probably manufactured and distributed around 1930. It is 10 years from being antique. Can I really load the spools up with new thread and throw it in my purse? Maybe I’ll use it as a model and make one, and this one can live in my sewing box in a nice little compartment. It is such a clever design.

Capsule body, wooden spools on a hollow shaft that holds needles, and a thimble top (yes, I used the puppy as a backdrop)
