Oh deer

My trail cam has been hanging out in the back of the lot, snapping pictures of (in order of volume) cats, raccoons, opossums, birds, and deer.

I like seeing the deer. I haven’t been seeing any on my walks when I’m in the neighborhood, but I’m glad to see some deer are near.

Deer on a restricted obstacle course

This is not the first time I have seen these deer breaking the law, but it cracks me up every time. I did have to do a little Photoshop magic to get the deer and the sign both in focus, but that was fun too.

Maybe they are card-carrying members?

Redeemed

I thought perhaps we would get through another walk with Oblivious, but he redeemed himself today. Or rather, the deer gave themselves away. And I had my good camera.

Those white tails bring me joy too. So silly.

My dog doesn’t answer to “Oblivious” anyway, so it is good that he redeemed himself!

And a little “Aw” for your Saturday:

The other half of the herd was not spooked, but were watchful.

Nightshade

Silverleaf Nightshade fruit in front of startled deer (winter).

So when we moved here over a year ago, in the dead of winter, I noticed yellow fruits on withered stalks all along my walks in town. Nothing ate these fruits, so neither did I, but I did wonder what they were.

Summer rolled through and headed toward fall and there were beautiful purple flowers. Beautiful, purple, poisonous flowers. Everywhere. I was told they were Silverleaf Nightshade. Toxic to most mammals (but not goats, go figure). I have not seen these invasive plants on our property, but will certainly be on the lookout!

As a bonus, here is a water color of a different Solanum species that was done by a student in England in the 19th century. Enjoy! And while you are there, check out other water colors on Watercolour World. Neat!
