Bird in the hole

Sophie looking to see if she can get the bird

We have some rust issues with the back fence that need to be fixed. However, after we saw a small bird fly into the hole, and Sophie the cat’s interest in the hole, we think a bird has a nest in the bottom. Fixing can wait until after nesting season.

Fossil Rim

Giraffe looking through the van roof at Fossil Rim

Here is my shout-out to Fossil Rim Wildlife Center in Glen Rose, Texas. This is definitely one of our favorite places to go, and if you’re in the area (or even if you’re not) we recommend a visit. Feeding the giraffes is the best. Save some food for the herd! You may be tempted to give it all to the Fallow deer, or Oryx, or the Aoudad (my favorite), but be strong.

Unusual view

This moth settled on the glass of the back door, which offered a unique opportunity to photograph it from underneath while it is still living. The photo isn’t as crisp as I would like, but you can still see the feathering on the antenna.

Unexpected buckeye

Common Buckeye

I took this photo before the recent ice storm, then forgot about blogging about it. I was quite surprised to see any kind of butterfly in February even in Texas. I think it was fooled by the 70 degree weather we experienced before we froze, as it was very sluggish. Missy the dog didn’t even see it at first, and keeping her from stepping on it was a trick. She did eventually spot it, and photobombed my shot, so I carefully transferred it outside the fence.

Little bunny foo foo

Trail cam caught the image of a wild rabbit! I haven’t seen one of those in awhile. I was afraid the local cat population had taken them all out. I’m glad they are still around.

You’re welcome for the ear worm. Happy singing.
