Every once in awhile we get a particularly nice colored egg. Sometimes they have well distributed dark spots, but this one was the first I’ve seen with white spots pleasingly spread across the surface. As the hens get back into the groove of laying, the colors even out, but this was a fun find.
When it is wet and muddy outside, I try to find a way for the dogs to get their exercise inside. I recently discovered that by strategically using a laser light, I can get them to loop the kitchen island! Over and over. Which is both entertaining and exercise. One of the benefits of lunging a horse is to get the sillies out and calm them before riding, especially for excitable horses (I’m not a horse trainer, this wisdom comes from others!) Turns out it works for dogs too. Here is a short video of my dogs running circles.

My Thansgiving cactus bloomed! Which is amazing because I didn’t intentionally do anything. The grow light it is under did stop working for an undetermined amount of time (if we have a power outage of even a microsecond the timer resets and I don’t typically notice for awhile). I have read that to get a christmas cactus to bloom you need to give it less light, less heat, and less water. So maybe this reduced light did the trick. I haven’t changed my watering schedule (if a plant can’t handle my watering schedule, it is not a plant for me, because I won’t remember a different schedule), and we keep the temperature of the house fairly constant during the winter (there is a different summer and winter temp, but within the season, it doesn’t vary much). Any who, it is a nice splash of bright color!
